Just home from Ireland
We are JUST home from an amazing trip to the Emerald Isle. We brought a large group of students and their parents and we had an amazing time. We toured around a little, visiting Bunratty Castle, the Burren, Ennis, Lahinch. We travelled to Dublin to play a concert for the US Ambassador to Ireland and the kids got to have tea with him. We headed south to the Rock of Cashel, watched an amazing concert by Brú Ború and stayed for a session with the members of Brú Ború.
We participated in Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Ennis and we brought home some world champions with us. In order to compete in Ireland, our students had to first compete and place 1st, 2nd or 3rd (with recommendation to go forward) in the Midwest Fleadh that was held in Cincinnati.
Major congratulations to everyone that competed in Ireland and to our winners: Brianna Brown, Brendan Johnson, Eimear Arkins (first and second place prizes) as well as our Over 18 grúpa cheoil members. Brianna and Brendan won first and second place in the Mouth Organ competition, Eimear took first place in sean nós singing and second place in slow airs on fiddlle. Our grúpa cheoil came 3rd in their competition. This was quite a big deal! The All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil is the equivelent of the World Championships in Irish music.
