A St. Louis native, Chris joined St. Louis Irish Arts as a student in 1988. Though Chris started dancing and tin whistle lessons along with the other students, he soon discovered another instrument – the bodhrán.
Excelling on the bodhrán – the traditional Irish drum – Chris made several trips to Ireland to compete in the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann winning Silver and Bronze Medals in the solo competitions and was a member of the senior Grúpaí Cheoil ensemble from St. Louis Irish Arts that won the All-Ireland title in 2004.
He has taught workshops nationwide including Mountain View Arkansas, the Dublin Irish Festival, SE Missouri State University, Westminster College and in his home town of St. Louis Missouri.
Chris earned the Gold Congressional Medal in 2002. In 2006 Chris received a media communications degree from Webster University in Film Production and is now a small business entrepreneur. As co-owner and Creative Production Manager at WAVE he produces corporate awards programs, business meetings and mobile marketing tours as well as promotional videos including one in 2008 for the Congressional Award Program starring St. Louis Irish Arts.
Chris has played with several Irish groups and musical ensembles over the years internationally and nationally and can be seen on occasion joining his friends on stage at John D. McGurk’s here in St. Louis. Chris has recorded on all four St. Louis Irish Arts albums as well as many other recordings spanning a multitude of genres. Chris enjoys teaching bodhrán lessons at St. Louis Irish Arts as often as his schedule allows and provides several bodhrán workshops for students throughout the year.
